LIST PICK
MICHL PULSE
Originating as an anonymous project a couple of years ago with debut single ‘Kill Our Way To Heaven’, Michl has come a long way in a relatively short space of time. Now collaborating with the likes of Mura Masa and touring with Tove Lo and Broods, this Los Angeles based producer and songwriter has not merely improved his connections, but his craft has measurably improved. A listen to ‘Pulse’ is all the evidence we need to back up this argument - his production is bold and bass-heavy and his arrangement conjures electronic melodies into vibrant oscillations. Strung out on the succinct beats and metallic synths is Michl’s sweet vocal which laments over all he has lost; the only thing that is truly his - a pulse. This becomes a greater metaphor for the life force which propels Michl ahead, but also for his innate feeling of rhythm - he knows that if he loses everything else, his talent for music cannot be extinguished. In this way, this electronic ode for absence is surprisingly hopeful, and one hell of track. - Hannah Thacker
